At CrossFit Fairfield, we’re proud to introduce one of our remarkable teen athletes, Carter. Carter’s journey into CrossFit began through his involvement in cross-country and track, where he first connected with Coach Keith. As a dedicated baseball player, Carter was looking to enhance his athletic performance, and CrossFit provided the perfect platform.
Carter has been training with Coach Keith for nearly a year, and his progress has been nothing short of inspirational. When he first stepped into our gym, Carter faced challenges with strength and body awareness, especially struggling with lower back weakness and pain. There were times he had to pause workouts because his body wasn’t yet ready for certain movements.
Fast forward to today, and Carter's transformation is impressive. Just last week, he achieved a major milestone by deadlifting his own body weight more than 20 times! This achievement is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the supportive community he trains with.
When asked to recount his CrossFit journey so far this is what Carter had to say;
“The first real bit of hard work I was putting in was during the workouts in Coach Keith’s garage gym with my junior rams team that worked out every Sunday there. This gave me the chance to work with a coach outside of a specific sport and build a connection. Then he opened the doors to the CrossFit Fairfield gym which has given me the opportunity to meet new people and enhance existing relationships with my friends. I also feel the workouts have become more advanced as I get older and stronger. One other benefit of being at CrossFit Fairfield has been having the opportunity to work with a variety of coaches, including Mrs. Davidson [Coach Christine]. All of the coaches at CrossFit Fairfield have pushed me to become stronger physically and mentally and I don’t think I could be where I am today without them.”
Carter’s mom, Jamie, added that,
CrossFit has improved [Carter’s] performance in all his sports: track, basketball, baseball, and golf. He is faster, stronger, and more committed to making choices that strengthen his overall health and wellness. Crossfit Fairfield has given him exposure to positive coaches who are not just telling him what to do but he sees them training and putting in the work to get results. The discipline and consistency they demonstrate, in maintaining their own optimal fitness, motivates him to push harder and be better.
In addition to the increased physical definition and strength, his overall mental stamina and grit have grown considerably. He has a mental toughness and drive that didn't exist before he started training with Coach Keith and his team. Carter is a healthier, more competitive athlete because of our Crossfit investment of both time and money.
Carter also mentioned that he remembers the following quotes to stay motivated.
"The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen."
"Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come."
Carter’s journey is a powerful reminder that with perseverance and the right guidance, incredible progress is possible. He’s an incredibly strong athlete, and this is just the beginning of his story. We’re excited to see what the future holds for Carter and to continue supporting him on his path to greatness.
